A lovely man and a brave GP

in 1995 my parents were involved in a car accident in France and my mother died. My father was seriously injured and stayed with me in Coventry when he returned. One day the door knocked and it was his GP Dr Lea. I asked if he knew i had to register my Dad with our GP whilst je was with is and he replied,”I havent xome as his GP Ann i havebcome aas his friend.” He gave me a hug and said how sorry je was to hear about my Mums death. My mum was an alcoholic and Dr Lea said, “I am so sorry aboutnyoour Mim Ann but if this hadnt happened she may have had five kore years but they would have been bery difficult ones.” My Mum had liver damage as a result of her drinking. I have reflected on this and think it was very brave for Dr Lea to have said what he  did, but he was right. I have taken comfort in the fact that althougnimlost my Mummin 1995, she did not suffer the inevitable painful end that would have awaited her frommliver damage. Dr Leamwas a lovely, compassionate man and a great GP. I wish i had been able to thank him again for his care and concern. RIP xx
